Redundancy lands like a blunt object. Typically out of the blue and very unexpected.
No matter how it’s packaged “restructure,” “realignment,” “business priorities” it hits the same place. Your sense of security takes a knock. Your identity wobbles. Questions rush in faster than answers: What now? What did I do wrong? Who am I without this role?
Let’s be clear: redundancy is not just a logistical event. It’s emotional, psychological, and deeply personal. It disrupts routine, confidence, and often your story about where your life is heading.
And yet, in the middle of that disruption, something else is quietly happening. An opportunity to rebirth. What we also find is something we have for sometime not had,
Space.
Not the kind you asked for. But the kind that, if handled well, becomes the starting line of something better.
The Ups and Downs
There’s a rhythm to redundancy that most people don’t expect. For many it could be the very first time you have faced redundancy for others something you have had to deal with before.
At first, there’s shock. Even if you saw it coming, it still lands hard. Then comes a strange mix of relief and fear relief that the uncertainty is over, fear about what replaces it.
After that, the rollercoaster begins:
- One day you feel motivated, updating your CV, reaching out, making plans. Applying for jobs.
- The next, doubt creeps in. You question your value, your direction, your past decisions.
- Some mornings feel full of possibility. Others feel heavy before they even start.
This is normal. Not a sign you’re failing just a sign you’re in transition or as I like to reference the rebirth.
What matters isn’t avoiding these ups and downs. It’s having a structure that keeps you moving through them. Professionals work with me when made redundant each comes with a special unique story.
The Process: 10 Sessions to Rebuild and Reframe with Nick Roud Coaching.
This is where a guided process changes everything. This is where an outside partner really supports you.
Over 10 sessions, we don’t just focus on getting you another job. We focus on getting you clearer, sharper, and more intentional than before.
Each session builds on the last, creating momentum instead of confusion:
- Stabilise – Process the shock, ground yourself, and create immediate clarity.
- Reflect – Understand what worked, what didn’t, and what you’ve outgrown.
- Reclaim Strengths – Identify your real value, beyond job titles.
- Redefine Direction – Get clear on where you actually want to go next.
- Craft Your Story – Turn your experience into a compelling narrative.
- Rebuild Confidence – Not artificially, but through evidence and clarity.
- Market Positioning – Align your CV, LinkedIn, and messaging with your direction.
- Strategic Outreach – Move beyond job boards into real conversations.
- Interview Readiness – Show up grounded, prepared, and authentic.
- Future-Proofing – Build resilience and strategy so this isn’t just a reset, it’s an upgrade.
It’s not about rushing. It’s about moving with purpose.
The Outcomes
By the end of this process, something shifts.
People don’t just “find a job.” They:
- Regain a sense of control over their career.
- Speak about their experience with confidence, not hesitation.
- Make decisions based on direction, not desperation.
- Step into roles that align more closely with who they are now not who they were.
And often, the biggest shift isn’t external. It’s internal.
They stop seeing redundancy as something that happened to them, and start seeing it as something that moved them.
Why Redundancy Is a Rebirth
Rebirth isn’t a dramatic, overnight transformation.
It’s quieter than that.
It’s the moment you realise you’re no longer trying to go back to what was.
It’s the point where your thinking shifts from “I’ve lost something” to “I have a chance to choose differently.”
It’s when clarity replaces noise.
Redundancy strips things back. That’s what makes it uncomfortable. But it’s also what makes it powerful.
Because when the old structure is gone, you get to decide what replaces it.
Not by accident. Not by default. But by design.
And that’s the real opportunity.
Not just to recover but to rebuild something better aligned, more intentional, and ultimately more sustainable.
That’s not the end of a career.
That’s the start of a better one.
We have been successfully partnering individuals and organisations around redundancy since 2006 and continue to ensure you are on the right path. Reach out to the team here at Nick Roud Coaching it could be the best call you make today!
