Working closely with individuals I am privileged to see first hand meaningful lasting results. To me, coaching should not be seen as a “quick fix” more, a gradual, progressive, personal plan where you take the opportunity to explore, understand, develop and continue to evolve as a professional. If you are in need of a “quick fix” may I direct you to “Doctor Google”
As a Coach I am extremely humbled to be trusted by Executives, Business Owners, Leaders and professionals that want to improve. Each come with a wide variety of needs, expectations but a genuine desire to improve. To me there is no greater gift than to be able to help.
Over time, and during our meetings that may range from;
- face to face,
- phone conversations,
- reading material,
- listening,
- researching,
- practicing
we get a deeper understanding of the real “why”.
I can count many times over when a client will want to work with me on a specific area, only to find out it is something completely different that we need to explore.
Recently during a coaching session I was really taken aback by a client when he stoped what he was saying and said, “Nick you are really good at what you do” I brushed it off and moved on.
A few days went by and I called him back to ask “why”, why did he feel I was really good at what I do? he said you ask such thought provoking and different questions, you never give me the answers but allow me time to find them, you really make me “think” (I would love to share with you his name but I truly respect client confidentiality)……..thanks for this you know who you are……
People ask me, what is it like to Coach, if you asked me a year ago I may have given a different view point, but like many of us, I also like to evolve. Right now, today my answer would look something like this
“It is like being a producer – hearing and seeing things you the client may not hear or see”
I know over the next few years this answer may change (nothing wrong with that), lets keep evolving.
As we all get ready to “Stop” and spend time with our family, friends you may be contemplating just what 2017 meant to you, you may be looking at 2018 (and beyond) with excitement, joy, anxiety, apprehension, at a cross road etc, take the time to put some plans in place, if you need a sounding board to kick start this, get in touch.
I will also be taking time out to spend time with my family and friends, I will be turning off technology, phone, email etc from 20th Dec and turning them back on 15th January 2018. (this I know is going to be a huge personal challenge for me, but you have to practice what you preach)
May I take this opportunity to wish you, your families and friends a truly “switched-off” Christmas.
Look after yourself and those you care about. Nick
