So, what is it?

A common question asked to me is, what is coaching? What do you do?

I hope the following helps.

Coaching is a starting point.

To me, fundamentally an individual who seeks a coach is looking for an alternative view point. A great deal of my time is spent researching for you, so I can be the best coach possible. The reason for this is no-one has all the answers so for me, gaining a broad understanding really can add value back to you.

As a coach, I work with individuals on a variety of specific topics. In total confidence.

Once an area/topic has been identified we work together at an agreed time and for an agreed period. I may work with an individual for just a couple of sessions – or up to 6 months, again it all depends on what it is you want to achieve. There is no quick-fix pill for this unfortunately. Coaching is a life-long focus, we constantly evolve in our careers and therefore seek a view point along the way.

Each session I have with you typically runs for 1hr, we talk freely and with purpose. I look to bring real life examples to our discussion and allow you the freedom to explore different possibilities.

Following each session, I send out a review of our discussion, this review covers specific areas that you may want to go away and think about along with some “tip-bits” that will continue to help and develop yourself. There may be some interesting articles that might help, alternatively a specific pod-cast or book for you to investigate again no two individuals are the same.

As a coach, I believe my role is

  • to be there for you
  • to get to understand you and your behaviours
  • to take the calls late at night or at weekends
  • to ask the dumb questions,
  • to ask those obvious questions that make you think
  • to challenge you, to keep you on track
  • to allow you freedom of speech and viewpoint
  • to be challenged
  • ultimately give professional guidance around what you are trying to achieve.

Don’t get me wrong, coaching is not for everyone, it sometimes puts us in areas we really don’t want to go, for those who seek a different view point and who chose to work me with, thanks for taking control and for wanting to improve.

Thanks to the 100 individuals who have chosen to work with me over the last 10 months, please do continue to be yourself.

I am a Career Coach located in Auckland and currently work with individuals that are located across New Zealand, Australia, Europe and the UK.
