Where Leaders Come To Grow.

SAYING NO ISN’T BAD!.

As a parent to 2 kids under the age of 7 you might think this blog is me projecting, well to sorts it is and if you were a fly on my wall over the last few days you would have heard the words NO shared to both the kids quiet a bit!!

Leadership is knowing what things to do and what things not to do. No leader is capable of doing it all that is why a great deal of time should go into your daily plan. What are you going to take care off? What are you going to delegate? What are you going to do now (short-term), soon (medium-term) and later (longer-term). How a leader decides those choices will either make them an effective leader of cause questions to be asked

Saying No isn’t therefore a bad thing to get comfortable with. How you say No is the key element. I received an message back from a wonderful Chair about our regular annual catch up to share coffee and check in with each other. The response came back, Nick, I am totally slammed at the moment and my focus needs to be …………….can we catch up in a few months when time permits!

You see there is a way of saying No because you need to focus your attention somewhere else.

If you look at your time in your day what are your priorities, think about yourself for one minute here and look at what is it you need to do today? How are those decisions going to impact you right here right now and or into the future. Consider what you say Yes to and therefore what you need to say No to.

We get to see here at Nick Roud Coaching far too many successful CEOs spreading themselves to thin. My advice is have 3 things at any time to work on and own yourself. Look to delegate the rest, hold onto for another time and or abandon! As Del-la-soul once sang 3 its the magic number, yes it is!!

Try saying No to yourself first – get comfortable doing that and then take those conversations into your leadership role.

  • Enjoy the art of learning and keep sharing your wisdom with others. The world needs you and we will all be better of for it
