Confidence During Your Job Search. Evidence from current successful clients.
Its one of the wonders of the world, confidence. Sometimes its up, sometimes is down, sometimes its bang in the middle. Score yourself right now;
Extremely confident, Somewhat confident, neutral, low confident, extremely low confident. It’s a good easy exercise to do every now and then to check yourself. What are you noticing about yourself when its high, when its neutral, when its low. Whats really going on for you?
For many reading today’s article I am sure you can relate to the ebbs and flows of confidence. I know myself when I played rugby, was going into a meeting, driving a different road my confidence could be low, other times when things felt in sync and my routine etc were where they needed to be my confidence felt balanced.
Last week I received 4 calls from clients who had been working with me over a number of months on their Career Reset Coaching. I thought they would be calls on progress being made but I was totally thrilled to hear they they had each secured a new job. Two of the four had roles that were disestablished late last year and the other two wanted to change organisations. They had been working with me 1:1 to reset their careers and each had put in the hard work along the way.
I congratulated each of them and was totally on a high as I left the global headquarters aka 20ft shipping container on Friday evening. The high was because we are hearing so much about job loses yet these individuals had cracked the code and secured jobs.
During my chats with them I was curious about their confidence levels and how / what was going on inside during the past few months. In each of our coaching conversations we spend quality time working on confidence. Each had very different lens they all agreed that working with me had helped tremendously with their confidence levels, one said you should do an audio so I can hear back our conversations when I am not with you Nick. (A thought their…….) What was resounding in each of them was to control what they could control and to expect the highs and lows. They found inner – circles of people they could trust and speak freely to, partners, mates, etc and three of them shared that they had taken on journalling each day as a matter of supporting their moods and understanding triggers behind those moods. Having journaled for the past 9 years I can say how helpful those little green books of mine have and continue to be! Give it a go.
One of my clients mentioned that when her confidence was low she went back to her commitment sheet. This kept her focused on who she is and her purpose.
Another observation was that they each shared that having a coach (me) really did help them with structure, process and relevant tools to prepare themself for reseting their careers. Sure we had fun along the way in our 1:1 confidential chats and the structure gave them each focus and clarity.
One thing to expect is silence. The phone may not ring, the emails may not be responded to, expect that to happen. Allow yourself time to remember the good things that make you who you are, the wonderful skills and attributes you bring. Don’t lose sight of what you seek. It is out their.
As we move along in our careers its important to acknowledge confidence. Some days we will be right up their others we will be low. Notice what’s going on, control what you can control and reach out if you believe an external Career Coach could support you.

Confidence meaning: feeling sure of yourself and your abilities (not in an arrogant way, but in a realistic secure way) A quiet inner knowledge.
